Recreational Amenities

The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg offers a variety of high quality recreational facilities and amenities for all ages, which will include the soon to be constructed Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre, a $31.5 million facility designed to promote community and individual health & wellness through programming and carefully selected facility components.

The Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre will include:

• NHL-sized arena
• Aquatic facility
• Multi-purpose and Active-living space
• Administration and general space, and
• Public library

The municipality is also home to numerous parks, over 200km of multi-use trails, playgrounds and sports fields dotted throughout the region.

Sports Facilities

The municipality is home to the Osprey Ridge Golf Course, a Graham Cooke designed 18 Hole Championship course, and the county as a whole has six golf courses and over two dozen courses within a 60 minute drive.

The Municipality will have full access to a new 6 lane indoor aquatic centre as part of the new Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre.

The County as a whole has access to 3 fully function ice arenas, with a fourth NHL size ice surface opening in 2012/13.

The Municipality has extensive facilities for baseball and soccer. As well as the municipalities signature Municipal Activity and Recreation Complex;

    • 100 acres of Open Space, which includes Fields, Woods, Ponds, Brooks and Trails

    • Large Grass Areas for Picnics or Socials

There are two Yacht Clubs; LaHave River Yacht Club and the Lunenburg Yacht Club as well as the upgraded Sawpit park Wharf, a public boat launch, with picnic and park area, benches, a privy.

Parks

The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg boasts an extensive rural parks system.  Some of the more popular parks in the district include:

Beaches

The Municipality has some of the best beaches in the provinces.  The untouched beauty of the beaches in the region almost defies description. We could talk of the invigorating sea air, the symphony of crashing waves, the miles of hand-holding-stroll-perfect sand or the heart-stirring views but it truly is a case of you have to see it to believe it.  Some of the more popular beaches in the district include;

Events and Activities

The new Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre will add another layer of for events and activities in the region that already is home to a number of key cultural and family fun activities. A wide range of these activities are available to both visitors and local citizens such as;
